I can explain...

Ok, so I know Luke Wilson may not be (even remotely close to) the best thespian the world has ever known, but he's just down right adorable with his crazy jaw and Texas drawl. And these blogs are free, so...

I fully, willingly acknowledge that this project, this blog, are completely ridiculous. But I make no apologies. It's just fun, ok?

Furthermore, I enjoy movies, and I enjoy viewing them as a full body of work; watching every movie made by a certain director or featuring a specific actor.

That being said, feel free to follow along as I attempt to view and blog the entire work of Mr. Luke Wilson over the next 365 days for the commemoration of his 40th birthday. Or don't. I'll still be here either way.

The Sandwich Scale

Just in case you've joined us a little late in the game, allow me to explain the Sandwich Scale you may have seen referenced at the end of each movie review.

The Sandwich Scale is a scale by which movies are rated on a level of sandwich-appropriateness. To employ this scale, a person must ask him or herself, "Can I bring a sandwich to eat while watching this movie?"

A high sandwich-rating, meaning you've answered the above question with "Yes!" or "As many sandwiches as I can carry!," indicates a particularly low-brow or uninvolved film experience, in which the presence of sandwiches will not affect one's ability to watch or interpret the film.

A low sandwich-rating, conversely signifies that a film may necessitate considerable attention to detail, as it attempts to convey deep and/or complex themes and story-lines, during which, the consumption of sandwiches may present considerable challenges to both the eater and those nearby who are not eating sandwiches.

My brother John furthers this discussion, adding, "By reverse logic, could you rate a sandwich by whether or not you would take it to a movie? As in, 'I love this turkey-bacon-ranch [sandwich] so much, I want to take it to the movies?"

Though still not widely-adopted, the Sandwich Scale thus far remains a well-received, if yet controversial, edition to traditional film critique.
